The Darkness and Black Stone Cherry‘s co-headline tour ended with an epic night rocking OVO Arena Wembley in London on February 4.

These bands are a dream to photograph, all in their element, rocking out on an arena stage with thousands of fans all singing back their lyrics. The co-headliners were supported by Danko Jones, a hard rock trio from Canada who more than warmed up the crowds and got things started with a high-energy performance.

Is there anything better than a full-out rock show with talented artists, fantastic music, loads of fan interaction, and added pyros and stage effects to blow the roof off? I would love to answer that there is not, but getting to photograph it up front is the icing on the cake.

I caught up with Ben Wells of Black Stone Cherry before the tour, and apart from being the loveliest guy to chat with, I got to ask about their upcoming tour with The Darkness.

Ben told me bands are booked by the same agent in the UK, so that’s how they first got on the same bill as The Darkness in 2012. Black Stone Cherry had already been fans of the band for years, and they all hit it off. So when they got the call this time asking if they wanted to pair up for a co-headline tour, it was a no-brainer for them. Ben told me there was a solid bond between the two bands, and he was looking forward to the tour.

Ben also wanted to tell his fans that they appreciate the life they have given them here in the UK, which is something they do not take for granted. Fans have become friends, and so many relationships have developed because of the concerts, which is pretty impressive.

I asked Ben what he was expecting from the tour, and I think he got it bang on by saying, “both bands are rock bands, but we both draw from a different side of the wheel; both bands love to laugh and love to rock, so I think it will be an epic tour.”
