We got to know Texas-based electronic band, The Radio Broadcast.

So, who are you?

We are The Radio Broadcast. We are a live electronic group from Houston, TX. There are two of us in the group. Michael plays keys and loops/samples and Kristin sings and plays keys as well. We met in a tattoo shop in Ohio in 2005 and started playing music together in 2008 and formed TRB in 2009. Michael grew up playing drums in punk bands and Kristin grew up playing the piano but at the time when the two met neither of them were involved in anything musically. We had both wanted to create our own punk band but realized after purchasing a guitar neither of us knew how to play nor had the time or patience to learn so we stuck with what we knew, drums and keys. Over the years our sound and style has changed along with the overall setup of the equipment we use. Our style is always evolving.

Why should people listen to your band?

If people are into electronic music, not EDM (nothing against EDM) then they need to listen to TRB.

What is your ideal touring line-up?

We would love to tour with Crystal Castles or INNERPARTYSYSTEM (no longer around), along with some of our favorite local Chiptune friends but ideally, the best line-up for us would be one with artists of a similar style and sound.

What does music mean to you?

Music is an art form. Music is someone’s feelings. Music is an inspiration. Music is an outlet or a release. Music is fuel for the soul. Music is a way of life.

What was the first record you bought when you were younger?

The first record or album Michael bought was the cassette Smash by the Offspring.

The first record or album Kristin bought was the cassette Hangin’ Tough by New Kids On The Block.

What artists first inspired you to start playing music?

I don’t believe it was anyone said artist that inspired us to play music and if so it wasn’t consciously known. Michael joined the school band in junior high as a percussionist and Kristin’s parents enrolled her in piano lessons when she was younger.

What’s the most aesthetically pleasing album cover that you have in your collection?

We loved all of the Sublime album cover artwork.

What kind of movie genre do you think your music would best be the soundtrack for?

That’s a pretty tough question. We will let the listeners answer that. We have a wide variety of electronic music styles that we play it would be hard for us to say our music belongs here and only here. Certain songs would work great for certain movie genres where others wouldn’t work at all. Take a listen and let us know what you think!
