We get to know British alt-rockers, Lady Jane’s Revenge.
So, who are you?
We are Lady Jane’s Revenge, a five-piece alternative rock band.
Where are you from?
We are located in Plymouth Devon, and Cornwall, way down in the South-West, so nature and sea are plentiful for LJR, haha.
Three of our members actually moved down from London, Brighton, and Doncaster respectfully.
How long have you been together?
We have been working together on this project for just over four years now; we’ve very thankfully bonded without any line-up changes and have recently enjoyed having the addition of Adam, our fifth member, who has joined on the second guitar.
How long have you been playing music?
For most of us, Lady Jane’s Revenge is our second band, before the four years spent on this project we each had endured lengthy spells away from music due to naturally growing up and working, and starting families. Our first musical ventures started early on around the ages of 16/17 and we gravitated back in our early to mid-20s.
Why should people listen to your band?
We approach real subjects that affect all of us somehow at one point in life and hope to let the listeners know, that we are in the same boat with them and no matter what is thrown our way, we are gonna fight it head-on.
Some of our song content focuses on anxiety, divide of classes, outlooks on others and even how to notice how amazing we are and can be if we are willing to accept how miraculous the human invention is.
What is your ideal touring line-up?
Awwww man! That’s a crazy hard question… We each love so many genres, but because we are a rock band and for ease haha, I will keep it to one band for each member.
Black Sabbath, Alterbridge, Korn, Paramore and The Used.
What does music mean to you?
A way to motivate others, share experiences and have an outlet of emotion mentally and physically, in a fun way!
What was the first record you bought when you were younger?
First actual legal purchase, not recorded off another copy or pirated… haha! It was Dr. Dre’s 2001. What a banger of an album that is.
What artists first inspired you to start playing music?
For me (Billy Crook, vocalist) answering as myself, I was hooked on Motown, Soul and the music of the ’60s & ’70s which played me to sleep nightly as I listened to the radio when young. It was the discovery of the Michael Jackson – Off The Wall album on cassette, that really burns into my memory, I rewound that tape till it was inaudible, haha. I am heartbroken that I must avoid him now in light of the allegations being so strong against him.
What’s the most aesthetically pleasing album cover that you have in your collection?
Sorry, I went over to the dark side of Spotify many moons ago! There are many amazing covers around, but one that sticks to mind was the confusion I had when I first got given Metallica’s Black Album. Was it crazy, stupidity or just plain genius? My first thought was, “what a waste”, but then I admired the balls of it!
What kind of movie genre do you think your music would best be the soundtrack for?
Definitely Action movies! Our music seems to have this sense of angst and attitude that builds and wants a reaction from its listener.
Recommend us a record, a book, and a movie…
Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory.
Journey of Souls by Dr. Michael Newton. This explores regression hypnotherapy, based on thousands of case studies proving past lives and their impact on our current bodies.
Lord of the Rings Part I… or to be fair all of them back to back, haha!
