Introducing: To An End

We get to know alt metal/hard rockers, To An End.

So, who are you?

We are To An End, an alternative metal/hard rock band. We’re for fans of Stone Sour, Killswitch Engage, Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold.

Where are you from?

Melbourne, Australia.

How long have you been together?

Just over a year now and in that time we have released three singles and just released our first full-length album, Redefine. Available on all digital and streaming platforms plus Bandcamp: https://toanendofficial.bandcamp.com/album/redefine

How long have you been playing music?

Personally, I’ve been playing the guitar around 20 years and the other guys would be similar with their respective instruments.

Why should people listen to your band?

I think we blend modern and classic elements of heavy music to bring big riffs with catchy melodies. I would like to think across the 12 songs on our album that there is something for everyone! We have heavy songs like our first single and video: ‘Wasteland’ (https://youtu.be/KodUFu2shKw) to rock, to a piano and acoustic guitar ballad.

What is your ideal touring line-up?

I think a dream tour would be supporting Metallica! But more realistically, we hope to play with the many amazing Australian heavy/rock bands that are really pushing the genres forward.

What does music mean to you?

I think music can represent so many things and really be a soundtrack to your life. There are so many bands that take me back to a point in time just hearing the opening riff. There hasn’t really been a day where I haven’t listened to something old or new. I also think having a musical/creative outlet is important to balance out real life.

What was the first record you bought when you were younger?

I can’t remember the first record specifically, however, some of the first albums would’ve been Pearl Jam’s Ten, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic; Nirvana’s Nevermind…. I also recall I had Alice Cooper and Mötley Crüe on vinyl, plus Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ as a cassette single!

What artists first inspired you to start playing music?

Our collective music tastes range from Journey, Pantera, Glassjaw, Faith No More, Tool, Slayer, and Meshuggah to 80’s rock to death/black metal! As a band, we feel we’ve been influenced by heavy music with a melody so there are elements of Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Stone Sour, Sevendust and Disturbed. Personally, I’ve always gravitated towards songwriters and great riffs so my heroes are Metallica, Pantera, Lamb of God, Alice In Chains, and Tool. Way too many to mention though!

What’s the most aesthetically pleasing album cover that you have in your collection?

That is a hard question! I love iconic covers like Black Sabbath’s self-titled, Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven, Machine Head’s Burn My Eyes, Metallica’s  …and Justice For All, Tool’s Aenima to modern covers too like Northlane’s Node and Parkway Drive’s Reverence.

What kind of movie genre do you think your music would best be the soundtrack for?

We’d probably be suited to an action movie, but there are some tracks that could work with some quieter moments too.

Recommend us a record, a book, and a movie…

Off the top of my head: Trivium’s The Sin and The Sentence, The Wolf of Wall Street and A Quiet Place.
